Pictures from Southern Utah- Bob'splace

The whole gang together. Luckily I was flying in and out of Salt Lake with all the kids. Nobody even turned their head for a second look. I did get a few mothers who tried to console me as I had four GIRLS! They told me to hang in there, just try to get through the next few years etc... All the kids were great. I'm so lucky to be surrounded by such good kids. Carlie out in the field.
The kids with "Hobbie", or Habanero, or as Carlie has named him "Spirit", but then she changed his name to "Penny". Anyway, he's a sweet horse. He stayed at that fence "talking" with Carlie for over a half hour. She didn't even have a carrot!

More of Habanero with Carlie....

Feeding him grass. If you notice the background he has plenty of grass to eat. I think he was just humoring her.
She's telling him a story. He looks like he's listening!
More stories for Habanero. Carlie gets so animated!

Bob's place

I'll have to fill you in on all these pictures later, and I have more to post. What a great time we had at my dad's place. Remind me to tell you the story about how all the Peckerdactyles went extinct. Bob sure has some good stories!

Bob playing the Concertina
Bob playing the Banjo - he's so talented. He picked it up a few weeks ago and plays by ear- he can play just about anything you ask him to. Never played before this summer. Just amazing!
Kids listening to Bob's Banjo around the campfire. We roasted marshmallows and hotdogs and talked until almost midnight every night I was there.

Carlie and Desi the goat. She loves the animals.
Alex and Andy the goat. See how Andy is leaning in to her so she'll pet him!

Carlie just walked around with her arm around Desi. Desi didn't seem to mind at all.

Grandma Evans

I'm posting quite a few pictures here because we never get to see Grandma Evans, and most of the time when you try to take her picture she goes on and on about her belief in the Indian ways that her soul is being stolen when we point the camera at her. Then she usually makes a funny face or turns her head. SOOOOO, these are really rare pictures of her. As I was taking them I gat a funny feeling that she won't be here a lot longer either. I think she knows that, and that's why she let me take so many pictures of her. Sure enough the day after we left she became very ill and was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance. She's going to be fine (we think, she's still in the hospital) but I know everyone has their time to go and I just feel like hers is geting close. I really wish with all my heart I could be near her the last year or two of her life. God works in mysteroius ways, maybe something will happen that will allow me to be closer to her for a few months at least. We'll keep you informed! Grandma and Alex July 2009

4th of July in Utah

This year for the 4th I took the kids to Salt Lake City. I really wanted them to see fireworks at Sugarhouse Park. SUgarhouse Park is this massive park with a creek running through the middle of it, big trees and lots of grass and hills. One of my very best memories as a kid is going to Sugarhouse as a kid for the 4th of July fireworks show. We'd get there early - I mean really early, like 5 or 6pm- and have a picnic. After the picnic we'd run and play with about a million other kids in the park. We especially loved the creek. I'd spend hours throwing sticks and rocks in the water. Then at dark the fireworks would start. Emily and I would get under the blanket and ooooh and ahhhhh for about an hour to the best fireworks ever! So, anyway, I wanted my kids to have that experience. Taking them there was like a flashback, they did the exact same routine I had done as a kid without a script! It must just come naturally. What a great time we all had. Emily and Jon came with Reid, Margaret and Rita were there, Alex, Carlie and Allie (our neighbor in Denver) and I were all there. It turns out that this was the last year for fireworks in Sugarhouse. I'm so sad about that, but happy at least the kids got to go once. I'll really miss it!

Here are a few pictures of the fun night......
